Louisiana is a magical place for me. Outstretched tree branches, veins in leaves, the movement of living things, natural elements that mimic inner dimensions and meet imagination are my inspiration for painting and just musing. These include my newest passion representing birds - playful, animated, expressive birds interpreted and developed into new shapes, colors, patterns, and textures. They represent the very pulsing beat of life for me. These appear in my work as symbols of exploration and growth, telling my stories and allowing viewers to connect their own stories, hopefully making people laugh with delight.
I began to sell my work, which included pen and ink and watercolor paintings in small gift shops in Lafayette. Through the years I have sold work through Lafayette Art Association, Artists of Acadiana at Vermilionville, sponsored bank shows, Barnel’s Gifts Open Studio Acadiana, River Oaks Art Center in Alexandria and directly to individuals. I have had plenty of time to explore acrylic painting, monoprinting, and two-dimensional mixed media. It was very exciting to have had three acrylic paintings accepted into the Ogden Museum of Southern Arts Louisiana Contemporary exhibit in 2014. I have sold nationally and internationally. Each painting offers learning experiences. Often the results surprise me.
It is so pleasing to see the expression on viewers faces. I take their happy expressions into my next work and like to think that all of my paintings do that in some way. When the lights are out and my work is done for the day, the birds chatter together telling funny stories. Sometimes I sneak in and listen. Maybe you would like to share that experience with a picture or two of your own!
